Back!

So the bar exam is over! Thank goodness. Back to wedding planning and enjoying life. On my first day off I spent the day walking around a local town going to vintage shops looking for a dress for a friend's wedding this summer. While I was there I found this great little shop that had lots of hats, including some great vintage wedding veils and hair pieces.

Look at all these hats!

I love hats, this one had a cute little brown birdcage and cute little pink flowers on top!

And this one was my favorite. It was a great birdcage with a pink and cream bow on top. I would have bought it but I wasn't sure the colors would match or if they would clash with my dress.

Sorry for the bad pictures but all I had was my cell phone. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take cute pics though :)

basket case

When I first found pictures of apple centerpieces I fell in love. Apples remind me of fall and the first fall we spent together after the move. We went apple picking at a local farm with our new puppy and took pictures (she doesn't really get pictures). It was fun.

When I started mentioning that I might do apple centerpieces people kept saying, oh like apple baskets! and I was like NO NOT LIKE APPLE BASKETS that would not look pretty. I can't really tell you why I thought this, I just did. Anyway I have changed my mind, yet again.

I don't know why but when I envisioned apple + basket before these type of baskets did not come to mind. However, I guess these are your typical apple baskets that you can find at any respectable apple picking establishment. I LOVE them, they are rustic and not very "basket" like. These I could do.

The internet wins again

one bride's stress is another bride's treasure. That's what I learned this week. I found a posting on, you guessed it, craisglist for 100+ votive holders wrapped in brown ribbon for $30. I pounced as I normally do. Luckily they were still available and I enlisted some BM help again to assure safety.

We arrived to find the 100+ holders very nicely wrapped in ribbon but unfortunately half didn't have candles and the other half had the old candles stuck in them. Sooo I offered her 20 and became the proud owner for 100+ votive holders half with old candles.

I decided to burn one of the candles to see how long they would last, thinking maybe I could save some money by using the ones with candles already in them, but it only lasted about 2 hours and I was slightly concerned it would look bad. So enter the internet again.

Now when we picked up the candles you can tell the previous bride spent hours picking out the old candles, there was wax everywhere, and she admitted she gave up and that is partly the reason for the sale.

But after, oh I don't know, 2 seconds on google I discovered you can freeze them and the wax just pops right out.

and viola

don't worry i am going to use the old candles for our mason jars on the deck, maybe even melt some together and make other candles we shall see!
